SEE US SHINE!!!  STAR 3 CERTIFICATION!
Our South Wilkes Barre and Kiddie Space West Child Development Centers have met the required scores for designation as a STAR 3 center under the Pennsylvania Keystone Stars accreditation program. This is a huge accomplishment and we are very proud of our Center Directors, Donna Witkowski, South Wilkes Barre and Wendy Williams, Kiddie Space West and all of the South Wilkes Barre and Kiddie Space West staff members. Everyone worked very hard to achieve this goal. Keystone Stars is a voluntary accrediting process for early learning programs. Star levels range from Start with Stars, STAR 1, STAR 2, STAR 3, and STAR 4. Daily program, daily schedules, curriculum, quality of learning, staff interactions with children and parents, personal care routines, safety and health---all of these areas are assessed by an outside representative from Keystone Stars. Each area is judged individually and given a score---each classroom is assessed. CONGRATULATIONS SOUTH WILKES BARRE AND KIDDIE SPACE WEST CENTERS!!!

PRE-K COUNTS!

Child Development Council operates three (3) Pre-K Counts programs funded through grants from the Department of Education. Pre-K Counts programs are Kindergarten readiness programs AND ARE COMPLETELY FREE TO ELIGIBLE FAMILIES. These programs operate 8:00AM to 1:00PM Monday through Friday for the school year.

There are only 20 spots in each program and they fill quickly!  For information on this program or to enroll your child call Kathy at 824-1625 or Susan at 829-2446.

Pre-K Counts is a fantastic opportunity for children who would not otherwise have a preschool experience. CALL NOW!

The Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts initiative has other grants in addition to the Kindergarten readiness programs. Wilkes Barre School District, a recipient of one of these grants, has been working with local child care agencies to improve preschool quality. The Council has three (3) centers which operate within the Wilkes Barre School District...Kiddie Space Heights, Wilkes Barre and Heights. These centers have been provided with early childhood "coaches"  as well as wonderful new classroom equipment and materials. Child Development Council is pleased to be working with the district to improve the education of all children.

♥THANK YOU!
Child Development Council sends a BIG thank you to the students of Mr. Rob Neyhard at the Wilkes Barre Area Vo cational School. Having heard about the State of Pennsylvania budget crisis and the resulting "cash crisis" in child care centers, these students collected "tons" of construction paper, markers, crayons, glue, books and other classroom materials for the children of the Council. These young people saw a need. They didn't complain about, they didn't accept and they didn't ignore that need. They stepped in and helped. I had a chance to visit their classroom and see what talented (as well as caring) individuals they are. What fantastic citizens they will be for our area in the future. THANK YOU TO ALL OF THEM AND TO ROB NEYHARD, their teacher.
